Substance Abuse Prevention

Substance Abuse Prevention education is available to the community and schools of Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet counties. Preventing drug, alcohol and tobacco use among adolescents means preventing lifetime health and social problems. In addition to poor academic performance, drug and alcohol abuse are related to suicide, early sexual activity, and vehicle crashes. Our substance abuse programs are research-based and considered "best practices" for preventing drug, alcohol, and substance abuse. Classroom programs, peer-mentoring programs, adult and youth coalition work, and speaking engagements are conducted in the community and in schools. In all three counties, the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist works with other agencies to collaborate efforts to meet the needs of the community. For more information, contact Amy Speigl, Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, at (231) 547-7643 or a.speigl@nwhealth.org.
