“Family planning services are so important to families,” said Patricia Fralick, Director of Family & Community Health at the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. “Our goal is for every woman to plan and prepare for pregnancy and then to be sure she gets prenatal care. When couples are ready emotionally and financially for children, everyone benefits, from the child and family to the greater community.”

Health Department family planning services are more than just birth control, Fralick said. “Our family planning visits include screening for serious health problems, which could impact healthy pregnancies later on, such as low blood iron, high blood pressure, and infections. Plan First! covers these services too.” Plan First! is a Michigan Department of Community Health program.
